The objective of the project is to evaluate the effectiveness of voluntary sustainability standards (VSS) to better understand how to reduce the negative environmental, social and economic impacts associated with the extraction, sourcing and production practices of 13 selected commodities (bananas, cocoa, coffee, cotton, fish, palm oil, paper, soybean oil, strawberries, sugar cane, tea, tomatoes and wood). Twenty-two standards across four categories: voluntary sustainability standards; industry platform/ trade association; corporate standards; and governmental were evaluated.
