One aspect of today’s migration crisis is the unethical recruitment of vulnerable and trafficked migrants. In the global economy, labour recruiters can play an important role in matching workers with jobs and ensuring the continued prosperity of businesses and families. But when unscrupulous intermediaries exploit job seekers by charging extortionate recruitment fees and taking passports, the negative outcomes impact everyone.
CRC is working as part of an international team to advise and support the further development of International Organisation for Migration’s (IOM) new multi-stakeholder voluntary standard system: the International Recruitment Integrity System (IRIS) Standard for international recruitment intermediaries to address these critical issues.
